PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Process all laboratory samples accurately and in line with client deadlines:

• Achieve a minimum number or re-check analysis
• Deliver market leading quality, accuracy and turn-around times
• Ensure efficient work flow through the laboratory
• Interface with Shift Supervisor and Sample Preparation section
• Assist with development of new capabilities
• Ensure safety compliance at all times

Laboratory Supervisor/ Coal Laboratory Manager

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the best quality of analytical results
• Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity
• Wearing appropriate safety gear at all times, also obey specific safety rules implemented in the Laboratory
• Weighing and analysis of all coal testing parameters
• Maintenance of calibration standards and QC Charts
• Perform sample analysis using the analysis instruments
• Checking the precision of balances as per work instructions for checking and calibration of analytical balances, and maintain log book records
• Calibrating analysis instruments in line with operation manuals, and maintain log book records
• Cleaning of laboratory and balance areas to high standard, including volumetric glassware as necessary
• Ensure highest standard of housekeeping
• Conduct QC/QA programs as directed by supervisor
• Relief for the Shift Supervisor when required
• Assist in Sample Preparation and Administration sections when required
• Other duties as requested by Coal Lab Manager to support the division activities

PROFILE

• Demonstrated ability to act effectively as a member of a team, and under limited supervision
• Operational experience in coal laboratories or other laboratory field
• Experience with International Standard Methods for Coal – ASTM, ISO & AS
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements

• Able to work independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously
• Able to interact with all sections in the laboratory, including suppliers and clients
• Good communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Works well under pressure, challenges status quo.
• Applies judgment and acts according to the SGS standards of ethics and integrity.
• High level computer literacy, including Word, Excel, email, etc.
• Understand job specific risk assessment and safety focus
• Able to meet tight analysis deadlines
• Follow instructions from supervisors carefully and without taking “short-cuts”
