Position Overview:

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the overall operations of a hardware & building materials distribution division. This includes ensuring efficient and profitable business operations, managing staff, and fostering positive relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term strategies and business plans to achieve the company's goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for growth, expansion, and diversification while ensuring financial sustainability.
• Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, including sales planning, marketing, human resource management, supply chain management, and gathering market intelligence. Implement efficient processes and procedures to optimize operational performance.
• Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and cost control measures to ensure profitability and cost-effectiveness. Monitor financial performance, analyze financial data, and take corrective actions as needed.
• Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise a competent and motivated team. Set performance expectations, provide guidance and feedback, and foster a positive work environment. Promote professional development and succession planning within the organization.
• Customer and Stakeholder Relationships: Cultivate strong relationships with customers, suppliers, industry associations, and other stakeholders. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction, address concerns, and actively seek opportunities for collaboration and partnerships.
• Market Analysis and Business Development: Monitor market trends, identify new business opportunities, and assess competition. Develop and execute strategies to expand the company's market share, secure new contracts, and establish strategic partnerships.
• Reporting and Communication: Prepare regular reports on financial performance, operational metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Communicate effectively with the executive team, board of directors, and other stakeholders, providing updates, recommendations, and insights.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Skill highlights: Commercial, sales, budgeting & cost control, coordination skill, understand the business unit as a whole
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree is desirable.
• Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) preferable, understand distribution operations and business management.
• Managing business or division, including financial management, staff supervision, and strategic planning.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team towards achieving organizational objectives.
• Excellent business acumen, including financial analysis, budgeting, and cost control.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, and industry partners.
• Proficient in using relevant software and technology for business management and reporting.
• Ability to work under pressure, make critical decisions, and adapt to changing industry dynamics.
